During summer and fall there will be lots of sales—truck-load sales, bulk orders, etc—that you’ll want to take advantage of. Also, as food comes in from your garden or farmer’s markets, you’ll have lots to can, freeze or dry. Use this list as a guide to know how much you need to buy or put up.
If you don’t already have an inventory system, now is a good time to set something up. There are lots of goodinventory systems available online. Some do cost money, but many are free.
Once you have an idea of what’s in your storage, compare it to the goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. Throughout the summer you can work to fill in what’s missing from your goals, taking advantage of the great produce and truck sales and the low post-harvest prices.
